ANTI-AGING:
James Joseph, Ph.D., and his team at the USDA Human
Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University report
that a diet of blueberries may improve motor skills and
reverse the short-term memory loss that comes with aging.
USDA animal trials showed improved navigational skills after
a two-month diet of blueberry extract. Although other fruits
and vegetables were studied, only blueberries were effective
in improving motor skills.

ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY:
Using a lab testing procedure called Oxygen Radical
Absorbance Capacity (ORAC), Ronald Prior, Ph.D., of USDA/ARS,
Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center measured the
antioxidant capacity of 40 commercially available fruits
and vegetables and blueberries emerged as #1. Antioxidants
have been linked with anti-aging, anti-cancer and heart-healthy
benefits.

CANCER PREVENTION:
Studies conducted by Mary Ann
Lila Smith, Ph.D., Department of Natural Resources and Environmental
Sciences, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, indicate
that compounds in Wild Blueberries may be effective inhibitors
of both the initiation and promotion stages of cancer.

URINARY TRACT HEALTH:
At the Rutgers University Blueberry
Cranberry Research Center, Amy Howell, Ph.D., showed that
blueberries, like cranberries, contain compounds that prevent
the bacteria responsible for urinary tract infections from
attaching to the bladder wall.

NATURE’S HEALTHY BLUE FOOD
™:
New research conducted by Willy
Kalt, Ph.D., at Kentville Research Center, Nova Scotia,
shows that Wild Blueberries generally have more anthocyanin,
total phenolics and antioxidant capacity (ORAC) than cultivated
blueberries.

A DAILY DOSE OF BLUEBERRIES
Just 1/2 cup of nutritious Wild Blueberries
is a delicious and healthy way to satisfy one of the recommended
5 A Day servings of fruits and vegetables. And it’s
easy. Frozen Wild Blueberries are available year-round in
the supermarket and, according to the FDA, they’re
just as healthy as fresh and may even retain their nutritional
value longer.
